The Pathway of Love

“Become What I AM”

Lanello’s Ascension

In an immature or primitive religion that does not contain God as a person, he is seen as elements or forces of nature. He may be seen, for instance, as a vapory spirit. The metaphysicians, who think that they are mature, will say that God is love, God is principle, God is truth. But unless you know God embodied as a person, you will never know him as you are intended to be.

So the quest for the Guru is something that is deep within our souls. It is the seed searching for a pattern in whose spiral it may follow. And this is what has drawn us to Lanello. He is so close to us, so close at hand, that we can reach out and touch the things he has touched, the clothes he has worn, the vehicles he has ridden in. As Ramakrishna said, “Where did you think I’d gone to? I’ve only passed from one room into another.”¹ Lanello isn’t even in another room; he is in this room. He is where I AM, he is where you are.

He is the key, the keystone in the arch. Without Mark Prophet we would know the ascended masters only by stories. We would know Saint Germain by books, and Morya by books. But through Mark Prophet we know what it is like to have someone around who is the embodiment of the masters. One day he would be Morya, the next hour he would be Saint Germain. You would see him on the platform, he would give a dictation, and he would be in that vibration. So we have that living witness.

As long as Mark Prophet was in embodiment, we did not have to become the fullness of God incarnate because he was that God incarnate. During that period we were dwelling in the bosom of Abraham. We lived in the bosom of Mark. So, abrupt as it was, his departure was the thrusting of all of these little fledglings outside of the bosom of Abraham and saying: “Now you become what I AM. And the only way you can follow me is to become what I have become. The only way you can know that I am in the room with you and the only way you can touch the hem of my garment is to go through the initiations and put on the same cosmic consciousness I have put on by the same path of initiation—the same road from changing the water into wine to the crucifixion, the resurrection and the ascension.”

Lanello’s Great Lesson

And so the Guru that has gone on will first establish within us an intense love. We have such an intense love for Lanello that we cannot bear to be without him. It is because we love him so intensely that we want to cross into the room where he is, that we will forge any stream, climb any hill, climb the highest mountain, wage any battle. We will do whatever we are called to do.

We have many loves along the way. We love God incarnate in one another passionately, adoringly. We worship the God in the heart flame of each one of us. We have a love of the dream of Camelot. We have a love of the saving of America. We love one another. We love our children. We are concerned about their education. These are motivating drives, and without them we would tend to go the way of the carnal mind with its selfish and myopic pursuits, because the carnal mind always blinds us to the reality of the vision and the goal.

So without love, we see failure on the path of initiation. And I can give my prediction and my prophecy that if you do not transmute the opposition to love within your being, at some point along the way of this caravan of the children of Israel out of Egypt into the Promised Land, you will drop by the wayside. For you will not love enough to go without water or without food or to make sacrifices or to leave loved ones behind or to leave behind your most cherished goals and your most cherished plans for your life.

So love is the great lesson that Lanello gave to me as the legacy of my life. You would have to live with him night and day to understand that love—always living for the one who was most deprived, who had the least light, who needed the most tender care. He would take his time and his energy, hour upon hour and day after day, to care for that one. I have seen him on any number of occasions drive nonstop a fourth or a third or a half of the way across the United States to speak with one chela who had lost the vision, who could no longer hold the chalice.

Go Back and Find the People

The caring for all of these children, the caring for souls—this is a love. And for that love, one will not leave. As I have mentioned in various lectures, the least of my concerns and the least difficult thing that I might do is to enter into deep meditation and sit in the presence of Alpha and Omega or Gautama Buddha or Sanat Kumara. In other words, I am not living my life in order to get to states of bliss. The state of bliss is as accessible to me as plucking the ripe fruit from a tree. And when I am in these states of communion with God, what I experience is this: What is all of this for? There is no point in staying here. I have to go back and find the people who haven’t yet gotten the tie to God and can’t pick that fruit from the tree and can’t get to that bliss.

How can you sit and enjoy the bliss of even a Sunday afternoon on the beach with the waves rolling in when you know that God’s people have not yet connected, have not yet received the teaching? You have to disabuse your minds of the fact that the goal of the path of initiation is the bliss of being able to have a personal conversation with God. When you get there, you will want to scramble right back down and find the people who haven’t gotten there yet. You will want to bring them to the path that will lead to their ascension.

We Become God to Help Others Become God

Every individual who makes his ascension experiences the ritual of going to the Great Central Sun. I remember that after Mark’s ascension, he waited for a certain number of months until he saw the stability of our organization. And then he withdrew himself and went to the Great Central Sun. For me it was like experiencing the total absence of his presence and having to experience God entirely as my own Real Self. But he did not stay. He came back quickly, not because he was worried about me, but why? Why go to the Great Central Sun only to come back again? We only become God so that we can help others become God.

It’s not our goal to create a matter perfection. Our goal is to create a crucible as perfect as we can make it so that every last living soul of light upon earth will finally once again be reunited with his Christ Self and his I AM Presence, so that we can say, “You are safe. You are sealed in God. You will get home. I can leave you.”

When you have that vision and that love and you know that life depends on you, it’s as if you’re a parent, a mother or a father. That newborn baby, utterly helpless, will not make it without you. I am not unique in this position. You also are the ones without whom humanity cannot make it. They are like newborn babies. We all have our position in hierarchy, and millions depend on each and every one of us.

You Are Uniquely Useful

So Lanello taught us the pathway of love. And in the succeeding years that I have expanded my service since his departure, it is finding a dynamic love and an intense cause every single day that keeps me at my peak of performance. And when people say to me, “How do you do everything you do?” I say, “Well, I do very little.” But they still go on with that question about how do I do what I do.

I say, the only explanation is love. I don’t have the physical strength or the mental equipment or any real attributes in my four lower bodies that could possibly be responsible for doing what I do. It is God doing it.

But how can I be the instrument? It is love. It is love that gives me the energy, the momentum, the vision, the understanding, the decision-making power. It is absolute concern for one individual, the most important individual in the entire cosmos. And that is the chela, you—you as an individual, not as a group. Any individual standing opposite me who is there to receive the ascended master’s teaching is the most important person in the cosmos. Why? Because to me the chela is God, even as to you the Guru is God. To me the chela is the most important God that I adore because he is the God that needs me.

The ascended masters need us, as Morya said, because they are the horse and we are the rider. And we determine where their message is going in this age. They need each one of us.

I can remember when I had my first child and it was as if for the first time in my life I felt useful. I felt useful to God. I did something for God that no one else could do, which was to have that particular baby. Lots of women could have babies, but I was the only one who could have that baby.

So it made me uniquely useful to the entire universe. And that uniqueness is also about you. Only you can open the door for another chela who is coming after you. Only you can take care of this precious little bundle, this newborn child in the manger, who is the new chela putting his first step on the path. That feeling of utter usefulness and the need, someone having the need for your love, draws out your love.

And that is why God gives us the opportunity to be parents, to sponsor life. For only when you understand how much someone needs you does the full energy and love come out of your being. And when you see that it’s obvious that people fail without you, you summon the love, you are there. You are there when you are needed because you care, because ultimately that individual is God, and God is a helpless child. And that soul can be lost.

So once again, it becomes a very real assessment of your own self-awareness when you can honestly look at yourself and say, “I am the best qualified person to do this job, and no one else is going to do it the way it should be done. So I am going to do it myself.”

Haven’t you ever had that feeling about doing something? Baking a pie or taking care of your children or doing an important project? You knew that you were the best qualified person for the job.

So that is what it all comes down to. If you love something that much, then you summon the will and the strength to do it. For if you don’t do it, you’re going to see that project collapse or that precious something not get done. And the hurt that you will feel is not a suffering for yourself, but you will suffer because other people will not be able to enjoy that particular project. You will feel that you have let someone down if you don’t do that job. So that is the real meaning of love.

God’s Love within Us for Another Part of Himself

When you look at the path that has led you here, you are going to discover miraculously that God has placed his love within you. Many of us have had a love in our life that happened spontaneously like the kindling of a flame, as if a little angel would come upon us and light this flame. And in reality, the love that we claim to have as our own is never our own love. It is God’s love within us for another part of himself.

If you have lived your life wholly by love, then every turn in the road, every decision you have made, all the way here from the time you were born, was impelled by a love, a greater love than that for your own self. And if you can plot that graph, as you would plot yourself spiraling up the mountain, you will have the beginning of what will be fulfilled and consummated in the ultimate love—the divine embrace at your own ascension, when the soul embraces the I AM Presence because there is no greater love than to be one with that beloved.

So if you can see the steps you have taken, then you can see that that graph is going to go right on. And there are going to be more and more meaningful loves in your life until there is simply no turning back. Every succeeding love becomes a spiral that pushes you on and on and on, and you can nevermore prefer yourself.

Now, that is the story of Lanello’s life from the time he was a little child meditating for hours at the little altar he built in his attic—the story of a greater love, a love that unerringly led him to his ascension.

Lanello’s Ascension

The turning point in my life, after my great search for Saint Germain, was the ascension of Lanello. And when I was in the crematorium, I saw him seated on a golden throne. It was sapphire blue velvet with arms and legs carved in gold, and it was a double throne just like the one that Alpha and Omega sit on. Except for the white tie he was wearing, he was exactly as you see him on the “Twin Flames in Love” album.² He was sitting there in his beautiful white suit on his own ascension day. And the seat next to him was empty. It was my seat.

I looked at him and the passion of my love was this: “I will stay here and see that every last Word of God that has come through you is published, and I will not come home until it is.” This is the driving love of my life. And for Mark, loving to publish this work was the love he had for his children.

I had the experience of watching him lay down his life for his chelas—in the giving of his own physical life and, spiritually, in the final rending of his own heart. Ultimately, many Christed ones finally give up their hearts for us. They give everything else and finally it is the heart that goes, the breaking of the heart. In the case of Mark, he passed on of a massive stroke, but his physical heart was functioning very well and never did stop functioning. His heartbeat was good and strong.

Lanello’s love and his teaching translated as a love for his children throughout the world and a love for the hierarchy to sustain the guru-chela relationship. If I would not be a messenger, the chain of hierarchy would not be continued. And this is what he told me the day I met him: “I am leaving. And you are to be my successor and there is no one else. If I don’t pass the torch to you, there will not be an open door, a messenger to bring the teachings. Given the world situation and given the length of time it takes to train a messenger, it will not be possible to continue this unbroken chain, because the torch must be transferred by someone in embodiment.” And he said, “In three years I will not be here.” The three years were extended to twelve by tender loving care and good food and dispensations from the Karmic Board. And then he made his transition and ascension.

The Integration of Lanello

Where do I have to go now to get to Lanello? Only in my God consciousness where I am sitting. The great mystery of this, then, becomes your realization that as I have become the integration of this ascended being, you can do likewise.

But I would say that I was not always Mark. I would honestly and truly say that until the hour of his ascension, I had not become the fullness of Lanello. I had to be a chela, and not just in this life. It was the culmination of many lives of chelaship under him and other masters.

Mark had the ability to contain an ascended master in the literal sense of the word. And that is the secret of why when Mark would walk around and you would hear his footsteps, sometimes it would sound like the footsteps of Morya, and sometimes Saint Germain or another ascended being. You could look at Mark and see any number of cosmic beings in him.

We were with him for twelve years, and then he was no longer in embodiment. The reason Mark did not leave in three years is because his love for me was so great. It was as if he was saying, “Elizabeth, I will not leave you in the Matter plane without knowing that without me you will make it.”

“I Will Not Leave until You Have Become Myself ”

I had indeed experienced the sense that I could not survive without him. One morning when we were standing in our dressing room in La Tourelle, I saw an announcement in the newspaper of the first jazz mass in Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. When I read about it, I began to cry, because Saint Patrick’s had always been the symbol of the special times when Mother took me on trips to New York. These were big events for me— to get on a bus and go to New York City. And when we got there, to go into Saint Patrick’s Cathedral was just like going to the altar of God, although we were never Catholic.

And so, it was like breaking my life in two. The memory of the greatest event of my childhood had just been destroyed, and I knew that it could not be put back together again. It was like a shattered vase. So I began to cry and I said to Mark, “Don’t leave me. I could never make it. I could never survive in this world without you.”

I remember how I cried because of my soul’s premonition that he would do that very thing—he would leave me. And he answered that plea by saying, “I will not leave you until you have become myself.” In other words, in reality he never does leave, because if I have become him, then he is not leaving me. Death is the ultimate illusion on this planet.

I can assure you that even though I had balanced fifty-one percent of my karma, even though he made the spirals of his consciousness congruent with my own chakras, even though he became myself and we are wed, my soul grieved when he left. When someone you love, like Lanello, makes the transition, your soul and outer awareness go through all of the grief, the agony and the moments when you lose that awareness. And you have to consciously go through the process of saying, “Yes, I AM consciously Lanello,” and then you are back together again.

But when light has entered your being and it has become yourself and there is no differentiation between that light and yourself, you don’t go around saying, “I AM Lanello,” because he is no longer identifiable. The moving stream has merged with this stream. And so the only thing that I can say is, “I AM God.” It no longer has the name tag of Lanello or Mother because that is too subjective. You can’t identify yourself as yourself. It’s as if you were to mix flour, sugar and other ingredients to make a cake. Once you’ve mixed them together, you wouldn’t say “I am the flour and the sugar,” you would say, “I am the cake.”

God himself created us not to be alone, even as we are separated one from the other in the physical and etheric octaves. And that is the real significance of Mark in our midst and our experience with him. Because we knew God embodied as a person, we did indeed know him as we are intended to be. Although Mark ascended, he did not leave us. For if we become the Guru, he never leaves. So in his departure, the Guru says, “The only way you can follow me is to become what I have become.... Now you become what I AM.”
