Arise! Accept the Mercy of God

Part 1

O thou still and beautiful flame of great cosmic mercy, thou art a shimmering pool in which is reflected the supreme wisdom of God.

I AM come to you this night trailing the glorious clouds of divine mercy. Mercy, beloved ones, is the highest and most magnificent quality of God. It is that nobility in you which forgives; it is that selflessness in you which exalts. It is that charity in you which loves.

I AM known as Kuan Yin. From my Temple of Mercy1 in the etheric realms of Peking,* I AM radiating the love of those mystical children of China who have made their ascension.

In that vast world of Christendom, there is often an unwitting narrowness which creeps into the religions and the minds of the people and causes them to think at times that their particular doctrine or faith is paramount in the saving of the souls of men. Often these individuals fail to take into account the great service and culture of another people. This narrowness is costly, dear ones, for it deprives mankind of a part of the beauty of their earth.

Every nation has its own culture, and the hearts of its people have drawn forth divine energy and woven a garment of love which they have made their own. In the beauty of their life’s expression, a part of the divine plan is unfurled and unfolded. Deprive yourselves no longer of the God-magnificence which every race and every kindred and every tongue expresses as the magnificent glory of God.

As I think back thousands of years ago and I hear the gentle tinkling of the temple bells here in Peking, my soul is enthralled with the images of the vast throngs of pilgrims, long before the time of Jesus, who came to worship divinely in these temples of gold and love and light. Blessed ones, some of you were there; some of you were not. But all of you can appropriate the beauty and the culture each race has to offer and thus enrich your world beyond comparison with its present state.

Quite a few individuals have the idea that we ladies of heaven are somewhat gentle, and therefore because of our gentility we do not express quite the firmness and the intensity of beloved El Morya and others of the ascended masters. This occasions some merriment on the part of beloved El Morya and the Darjeeling Council; for we have the reputation at inner levels of having evoked many benign influences in the world through the quality of mercy emanated by our ray; and through the light of our feminine ray, we have greatly benefited mankind. We kneel humbly in adoration to the God Presence of our being—our own I AM Presence—that we are so privileged to be able to express the cultured love of God which takes into account the origins and ideas of many races and many people, blending in the great color wheel the rainbow rays of divine light. Thereby the weaving of the seamless garment of the world is performed in the crystal-white purity of beloved Serapis’ ascension flame.

All of the color rays have their purpose and place. And the magnificence of the rainbow is known by the variety of its colors—those gentle, divinely auric tones which are often reflected in the auras of the spiritually minded individuals who, by the purity of their consciousness, draw forth the divine qualities and shed them abroad in fulfillment of the eternal promises of God. Those of you who are familiar with the story of the Noachian deluge called the Flood will recall how, in accordance with this particular recounting, God placed in the sky as a symbol to Noah the rainbow of divine promise.

O transcendent auric light from the Great Central Sun, destined to be the perfection of light in this world, thou seven wondrous color hues that combine to make up the glorious white purity of the Father and the white-fire body of each lifestream, we salute thee in the holy name of God!

Trembling within each human heart is this great flame of the mercy of life. How many of you, blessed ones, have thought of the flame of life within you as a flame of mercy? Mankind often choose to think of the flame of life within them as a flame of power, and they draw forth significant power only to exercise it in the world of form and in that particular sphere of influence where they would hold sway. Others draw forth a tremendous quantity of divine love and pour this divine love out upon all whom they meet. Then again, others desire to draw forth mighty waves of divine wisdom, and it would seem that no thing in the universe is hidden from these people. Great wisdom comes into their hearts and worlds, and they help to illumine all mankind. Beloved Confucius was one of these,2 and there have been others.

But, blessed and beloved ones, tonight I AM ever so interested in your drawing forth the flame of mercy which is within your hearts. First of all, blessed ones, forgive yourselves for your own mistakes and errors. I know that this seems somewhat contrary to some of the religious doctrines of the West and even to those of the East whose adherents practice an austerity which causes them to feel the need to lie upon a bed of spikes. This is not the fulfillment of the mercy of God. Tortures of the human body, twisting of the body into contortions and shapes which God did not intend the body to assume may be beneficial to those who have studied the sciences of yoga.3 But, blessed ones, at this time and age, for the Western world particularly, these are unnecessary practices. For the flame of mercy within your heart can accomplish more than all of these practices could achieve in one lifetime and with far greater ease.

By drawing forth from God the flame of mercy, which is as much a part of you as your own breath, your self-forgiveness for past errors becomes complete. With the forgiving of yourself, you are accepting the quality of divine mercy, and it is only, beloved ones, by the acceptance of the Father’s mercy that you can be cleansed and stand wholly free.

At this moment and juncture in this meeting, I would like to point out to all of you that great saints, great masters, cosmic beings, Christs, members of the angelic hosts and the eternal hierarchy are no different from yourselves. We who are the ascended masters wore mortal forms much like your own. (However, there has occurred a greater evolution within the brain structure of mankind today. And the physical form is not quite the same as it was in past ages. There is a deterioration, for example, of the heavy muscular structure which manifested when more physical labor was required of the mankind of the earth.)

But today, blessed ones, the point that I AM determined to make concerns immortal forgiveness and the part it shall play in the coming age of divine purity. Countless individuals have cast themselves upon a bed of spikes. They have suffered mental torture and grief and anguish for the deeds which they have done in this embodiment as well as in past lives.

The story of the prodigal son4 so well illustrates that it is not the intent of the Father—of your own individualized mighty I AM Presence—to retain the memory of vengeance against your lifestream. It is the intention of the Father to give you, as you are able to accept it, the fullness of himself. You have a cosmic destiny equal to my own and equal to the destiny of every ascended being. Let no man, no woman, no teacher nor any individual take from you your crown.5

Blessed ones, at this moment, I ask you to think upon the lives of those saints of which you may have read or heard. As you think of the lives of those saints who are familiar to you, try to realize that they, like yourselves, struggled under a burden and were able to find their freedom by the mercy of God. Do you think, blessed ones, that it was by the practice of austerities, by the casting of themselves upon beds of spikes or climbing countless stairs, by great labors of scrubbing floors or by endless repetitions of prayers that these individuals were able to find their freedom? Nay, for this would do despite to the great spirit of divine mercy itself which requires of no one any austere penalty in order to enter in.

It was a human concept, a religious idea of “sack cloth and mourning” and self-condemnation, held for thousands of years, which caused men and women to think they needed to do these things in order to receive eternal life, which is in reality so freely given. However, dear ones, at this time, I wish to make a very important point. The great cosmic law, which ever looks upon the hearts of mankind, looked upon these blessed ones and not because of their deeds—of their casting themselves over the precipice of austerity and suffering— were they saved, but because of the great love and mercy of the cosmic law these lifestreams won their ascension.

Therefore, today, you who are so blest as to receive the divine light from the ascended masters’ octave, you need no longer struggle senselessly by prostrating yourself and pleading with an angry God to give you enough cosmic mercy to win your salvation. You have but to accept the cosmic possibility of your ascension and then to follow the instruction of the ascended masters to the best of your ability and the destiny of life. The great mercy of life which can never be interrupted, which can never fail, which is as certain as the approaching dawn is within the solar system, shall prove to you without question that God is able by the richness of his mercy to supply all of your needs according to the perfect Christ-pattern long ago established within you. Is this not a grand concept?

Ladies and gentlemen, I ask you, can you not wax enthusiastic at the mercy of God which is the same mercy by which the saints attained their freedom? I ask you, are your ears dull of hearing? Are your hearts so weary of receiving the instruction of God that you cannot perceive this point? O beloved ones, I should expect you to leap to your feet with joy when you pause to consider the meaning of the eternal mercy of God which is given to all who will accept it.

And the only condition that prevents mankind from receiving this great blessing is mankind’s own unbelief. And therefore, it is their lack of acceptance and their lack of faith in their own God Presence, their own victorious I AM Presence, that prevents them from expressing the fullness of the mercy of God. Therefore, I say to you, children of light assembled here in Washington this night: The great and magnificent I AM Presence of you is God, your Saviour. And by this great magnificent God Presence of you, you shall obtain the resurrection and the life; your own transfiguring Deity shall make of you an outpicturing of the mercy of God.

The people of my beloved China love the world today even though they may not always express it. Their love dwells within their hearts and underneath the stolidness, which is reflected in their determination to excel even through the pathway of drudgery. Dominated by the boot of communistic communes, those blessed people struggle today with rude wooden instruments to till the earth and to take its fruits that they may feed their young and express their culture in that ancient land. O China, China, how I love you! O world, world, how I love you! How every ascended master loves the people of every race, and how we express this love!

I speak to you tonight in accents strong, strong because they come from the great quality of divine mercy. Divine mercy is magnificent. Divine mercy is glorious. Divine mercy is God’s love for every portion of himself that will not let mankind go no matter how they may fail to express or come short of the mark of their own perfect being.

O thou great quality of divine mercy! Angels of the violet-fire Temples of Mercy in Peking, come tonight in answer to my call. Wing your way together with Gabriel’s hosts to this city and bless the world tonight in the name of Gautama Buddha. Greet the coming year with forgiveness and mercy amplified without limit until the ladies of heaven join hands with the ladies of earth in one magnificent call to the Father of light to amplify in every beating heart the divine quality of mercy which will not let mankind go down, but is determined to give them the fullness of all the perfection which life holds so near and so dear for them.

“The Summit Lighthouse Sheds Its Radiance o’er All the World to Manifest as Pearls of Wisdom.”

This dictation by Kuan Yin was delivered by the Messenger of the Great White Brotherhood Mark L.Prophet on Sunday, December 31, 1961, during the New Year’s Class held in Washington, D.C. Delivered in the early years of The Summit Lighthouse, this dictation was originally published in the booklet Spoken from on High and presents fundamental and timeless teaching of the ascended masters. In preparing this Pearls of Wisdom minimal editing was required.

3. The Sanskrit term yoga means “divine union,” or the union of you and God—hence “yo-Ga.” Many practices foreign to the Western world are entered into by the Eastern seeker for union with the Higher Self. Some of these practices demand stern disciplines; in fact, they may be considered austere by Westerners. What many in the West think of as yoga is hatha yoga, a system of physical practices that allows the control of breath and bodily functions. This form of yoga is only one of many yogas taught in the East. When practiced as an end in itself, hatha yoga may be a distraction from the path of God-realization, or union with God. But the ascended master Chananda, chief of the Indian Council, recommends hatha yoga as “an appropriate sequence of the exercise of the physical body for the interaction with the spiritual bodies and the chakras.... It is not a physical exercise for the exercise of the physical body. It is divine movement for the release of light that is even locked in your physical cells and atoms, in your very physical heart. Releasing that light transmutes toxins, fatigue and opposition to your victory. And therefore, not endless hours but a period of meditation and concentration combined with these yoga postures daily will reap much good. It will give you a surcease from the stress of bearing the burden of world karma and the burden of that certain type of chaotic energy which is uniquely Western in its vibration, emanating from the mass consciousness of uncontrolled feeling bodies and the wanton and reckless misuse of the mental body. This path is something that you can take up and yet not be deterred from your regular activity of service.” For ascended master teaching on yoga, see The Masters and the Spiritual Path, Mark L. Prophet and Elizabeth Clare Prophet, chap. 1.
